The Accountant manages daily and monthly accounting and tax activities, including preparing financial statements, forecasts, and reports. The role ensures accurate record-keeping, implements financial controls and budgets to reduce risk, and guarantees compliance with GAAP and IFRS. The position also involves supervising a team of two finance staff.
Support the Corporate Controller on an as-needed basis.
Improve month-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Maintain an organized digital filing system for all financial records.
Review bookkeeping entries and record transactions in the accounting system when required.
Monitor cost allocations and perform monthly variance analyses for below-gross-margin expenses.
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations for accuracy.
Manage fixed asset registers and intercompany loan balances.
Validate inventory, foreign exchange contracts, mark-to-market adjustments, and other balance sheet items, ensuring proper documentation.
Prepare and review VAT returns, monthly income tax calculations, and deferred tax provisions.
Support internal and external audits with required documentation.
Assist in preparing the annual budget and highlight significant variances.
Complete and submit statutory surveys to Statistics SA and other regulatory bodies.
AGA or CA(SA) with 1–2 years post-articles experience, or BCom Articles with 5+ years’ experience.
Strong knowledge of the Companies Act, IFRS, and both direct and indirect taxation.
Experience preparing financial statements using Caseware and managing SARS eFiling processes.
Skilled in divisional reporting, variance analysis, and budget vs actual reviews.
Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze large datasets.
Experience reviewing agreements to ensure correct implementation of financial and contractual provisions.
